“I hear the beat. Prititit!” – Cebu Daily News
To totally ride in with the festive mood of the “Mother of All Festivals” – Sinulog – it is but proper to find out what are the things that one must do, local or foreigner, during the most awaited celebration. From my years of staying and merrymaking with my fellow Cebuanos, I highly recommend the following to be done this Sunday.
Prititit! Who can’t dance with that beat? Join the street dance during the Mardigras and mix in with the street parties in Mango, Osmeña Boulevard and different restobars in the city.
Familiar actors and actresses. Festival queens. Street dancers. Friends and colleagues. Get that monopod or front camera ready for your selfies! Do not be last one to post your most up-to-date photo of Sinulog.
Barbecue and puso? What are you waiting for? Eat!
This is the contemporary version of the precolonial tattoos of the early settlers here in Cebu. Though their tattoos before hold specific symbols, this henna tattooing during the festival only lasts for weeks and eventually fades overtime. But who cares? It’s an old celebration, why not fashion like one?
Cebu! Cebu! I’m really longing to see you! Cebu! Who does not get LSS to that song? Nobody, I guess. No worries though. It’s acceptable.
People will altogether flock in various malls and stores all over the town. Thus, prepare your pockets for some souvenirs and memorabilia to keep on.

Sinulog is not just about the food and the people, it also speaks so much about the place. Therefore, should you plan to stay a little longer in the place, do not hesitate to go forth and explore the province. There are various places to choose from – from historic sites, adventure arenas or meditating grounds.
Though more people are much accustomed to henna tattooing, some people are also hesitant to try such stuff specially students and kids. Worry no more since a lot of artists are offering facepainting services for a quite lower price. You get to enjoy on choosing your own design and be in character with your favorite cartoon or hero too!
This trend can be credited to Island Souvenir’s model and blogger Kriz Uy. Most girls get crazy and cool with their own fashion statement as they turn the ordinary Sinulog shirt into something to flaunt to and style on during the celebration.
ONE: Visit the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño
Before doing all the mentioned activities above, this is the most important thing to accomplish during the Fiesta Señor. One must do homage and praise the reason for the celebration. People can do the traditional ‘Sinug’ with candles, flowers or image of the Sto. Niño. Aside from that, one can be with the people in doing the waving of the hands during the singing of the gusos, the Batobalani sa Gugma.
See? There’s really more to Sinulog that what you see from the television and hear over the news. So what are you waiting for? Feel the beat. Dance with the beat. Be the beat!
Pit Senyor bai!
